Abstract
Monoamniotic twin pregnancies are rare, but the fetal death occurs in a very high incidence. This high mortality rate has been attributed to premature delivery, vascular anastomoses between the twins, congenital anomalies, and to knotting and intertwining of the umbilical cords, with cord accidents apparently contributing the largest portion. The prenatal diagnosis of the monoamniotic twin pregnancy was difficult, but the recent progress in the imaging techniques has made it reliable. However, the desirable management plan of the monoamniotic twin pregnancies is still not established and there are controversies regarding the proper antepartum careof monoamniotic twins and the optimal timing and mode of delivery. A case of single fetal demise in a monoamniotic twin with the intertwined cords is reported with a brief review of the literatures.
Key Words: A monoamniotic twin, Single fetal demise, Intertwined cords
