- Abstract
- Edward syndrome, or Trisomy 18, is the second most common autosomal aberration associated with multiple congenital abnormalities. The hallmark of trisomy 18 is polyhydramnios with intrauterine growth retardation and congenital abnormalities. Growth deficiency is well-known part of this syndrome and, therefore, it is particularly important to make the antenatal diagnosis of trisomy 18 because of universally poor prognosis. Identification of a fetus with trisomy 18 is an important variable in planning obstetric management ; therefore increasing awareness of the sonogaphic appearance should improve the detection rate of this syndrome, since the sonographic abnormalities described in this report can be indications for cytogenetic evaluation. We experienced a case of Edward syndrome with multiple anomalies antenatally diagnosed and so present it with brief review of literatures.
