Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a mesenchymal tumor that usually arises within the gastrointestinal tract. However extragastrointestinal stromal tumor (EGIST) is a rare tumor (5%), especially few cases of EGIST arising in vagina have currently been reported in the literature. We have experienced a case of vaginal GIST. A 49-year-old female presented with vaginal mass for three weeks. The mass was located posterolateral vagina near to introitus and 3.0 x 2.5 cm in size. Histological examination showed hypercelluar spindle cell proliferation and more than 10 mitoses per 50 high power fields. They were positive for c-kit (CD 117) and CD34. Surgery is the most effective treatment and long term follow up is warranted.
